New Music from Monica – Once In A Lifetime

Posted by Mack On March - 31 - 2009

I LOVE this new joint by Monica!! It sounds like she’s finally returning to the vocals that helped her rise to prominence. Monica gets it IN on Once In A Lifetime, presumably the second single from her ever-delayed 6th album, Still Standing. With B. Cox behind the boards, Monica brings some hefty vocals to this new track, and I’m sooo glad to hear her doing what she does best. Latest reports have this album scheduled to be released some time this summer, following her reality show which was reportedly picked up by the BET Networks.

Video: Young Jeezy – Don’t Do It

Posted by Mack On March - 31 - 2009

Cinematically, this is probably Jeezy’s best video, shouts to Gabriel Hart. The black-and-white edit on this video adds to the somber nature of the song and really makes the whole video memorable. Don’t Do It is one of the hottest joints from Jeezy’s latest The Recession which hit stores last September.

Nas, Jay-Z, Jeezy, then Pac though? How significant was that?

Video: Twista – Wetter (Get It Wet Pt. 2)

Posted by Mack On March - 31 - 2009

The fastest rapper alive is back and, in a style that only Twista can deliver, he slows it down just for the ladies. Wetter (Get it Wet Pt 2) is the first single from Category F5, his eighth album. I’m diggin the sexiness in this video, lots of hot ladies and lots of Nuvo. Twista has a history of putting out sexy jams like this for the ladies; one of my favorites is Freaky Thangs from Ludacris’ Word of Mouf album which also features Jagged Edge. Category F5 is set for release on June 16th and is rumored to feature guest appearances from Busta Rhymes, T-Pain, Lil Wayne and Justin Timberlake among others. Check out the latest video from the Chi-town speed demon…

New Music: Rick Ross feat. Nas – The Usual Suspects

Posted by Mack On March - 30 - 2009

Wow!! The biggest boss Officer Ricky Ross is setting up for what sounds like his best album yet with this latest track featuring Nas. The Usual Suspects is one of those real smooth cuts that makes you wanna lean back, light a cigar, and toast to the good life. Sure 50 Cent may be killing Ross in this over-hyped beef, but Ross’ lyric game knocks 50 Cent out of the ballpark with ease. Check out the latest cut from the album Deeper Than Rap, slated for an April 21st release date.

Teairra Mari ft. Nicki Minaj – Automatic

Posted by Mack On March - 30 - 2009

I’m not a huge fan of Teairra Mari, but she’s been recording some fairly decent stuff for this new project. I guess she’s got something to prove now, seeing as how she got dropped from one of the biggest labels around because she couldn’t pull her weight. While this makes for a hot track, I’m not quite sure I can get with the song, especially since Kelly Rowland had a very similar song on her last album, Ms. Kelly. At any rate, vocally Teairra Mari is holdin’ her own. We’ll see what else this Def Jam has-been has to offer with her next album.

Kanye previously posted on his blog how much he loved the original We Fight, We Love from Q-Tip’s latest album, The Renaissance. Well, he liked it so much that he hopped on the remix, and made this version almost as good. I think the simplicity of the original makes it better and, really who can compete with Raphael Saadiq on this track? Still Kanye and Consequence do the song much justice. Check out the remix, but more importantly, you need to cop that Q-Tip album, it was seriously one of the most underrated hip-hop albums of ‘08.

Charles Hamilton – Catch My Balls

Posted by Mack On March - 30 - 2009

You gotta give the homie Charles Hamilton credit: how many rappers can take the theme from Pokemon (of all beats) and flip it into a hot freestyle? You may not see a lot of Hamilton’s music posted here, but don’t think for a second that Sound-Savvy isn’t a fan of what this kid is doing. His lyrical prowess rivals some of the best in the game, and when he gets beyond these petty beefs with Soulja Boy to actually hit the center stage, it’s gonna be something to behold. Check out the latest joint from Charles Hamilton, Catch My Balls

“No more pain, no more pain, no drama… No more in my life…”

I think Mary was on to something with this one… in fact, I’m sure of it. This song hits home for me, especially recently, I’ve learned another lesson. New Edition had a song called Can You Stand The Rain? I counter that with this question: can you stand the sunshine? See, it’s one thing to have friends who have your back when you’re going through the storms of life and things aren’t so good. But what happens when you decide to make life better for yourself? When the storms of sadness are washed away and success showers down, how many umbrellas can you count? Quite simply, everybody doesn’t want to see you succeed. I made a vow to myself that I would no longer allow the dead weight of other people’s negativity to hold me down and prevent me from flying high. For that reason, I offer you Mary J. Blige’s No More Drama as this week’s Motivation Muzik. Sometimes the easiest thing to do in a hard situation is LET IT GO…

New Keri Hilson – Hey Girl

Posted by Mack On March - 29 - 2009

Now THIS song succeeds where Cassie’s Let’s Get Crazy fails!! This is how I’d like my girl to party: “Patron, Tequila I’m drunk off margaritas“. Fresh off the release of her debut album In A Perfect World, Keri Hilson’s Hey Girl is an unreleased cut from the album, that I’m hoping will show up as a bonus track or an addition in a re-release. This song proves once again that, if nothing else, Ms. Keri can sure as hell rock a party!

Kid Cudi – Day N’ Nite

Posted by Mack On March - 29 - 2009

Kid Cudi reminds me of that kid in the back of the class… the one with a world of creativity locked inside his mind but no one took the time to understand. With Day N’ Nite, he recorded two videos for the two versions of the song. The first is the original, stronger on the hip-hop tip which weaves animation in and out of real life scenes to bring the song’s metaphors to life.

The second, which is the version I prefer, is more hip-hop/electronica and is a remix done by an Italian DJ in Europe by the name of Crookers. The video is pretty amusing too, I enjoy his more humorous side.

I’m assuming the original version will make it on to his debut album entitled Man On The Moon: The Guardians, from Kanye’s GOOD imprint, but I’d really like to hear the UK mix as a bonus track. Moreover, I’d love to hear Kid Cudi and Janelle Monae do a collab, that would be epic!! Which video do you prefer?
