So Nas has revisited his ’96 hit If I Ruled The World, first made popular with Lauryn Hill on the hook. This version is more updated, with dreams now realized due to recent achievements (i.e. Obama’s win, etc.) However, I don’t think this one can touch the original. If he wanted to update the song, he shouldn’t have changed so much – Lauryn Hill should have remained on the hook (which would have been a great comeback opportunity for her), the beat should have been more similar to the original, and I really feel like he covered so much more content in his original version and this one is rather limited.
