It’s December 31st, 2009 — the last day of the month, year, and decade. If you’re anything like me, you’ve listened to a LOT of music this past decade. Last night on Mindstream Radio, I counted down my top 11 hip-hop and R&B albums, but there are a few that I couldn’t announce last night for the sake of time that need to make it on the Top Albums of the 2000′s list. So here’s my complete list…By the way, this list is NOT RANKED, these are just my personal favorites over the past 10 years.

TJ, I feel u on that. The Writing’s On The Wall was Destiny’s Child’s best album, hands down. But Survivor ushered in a whole new era. The era of the independent women. I think they did things on that album that a lot of girl groups are STILL trying to emulate, even in the simplest sense of making a single anthem. This album had a few. And I agree, Dangerously In Love should’ve made the cut.
sammy… I could see adding Elephunk, that was a dope album. The Black album to me didn’t live up to the hype. I’d put Dangerously In Love up before I add B’Day. Late Registration over College Dropout though? Hmmmm… that’s a good one….
id throw neyo off and possibly kelly clarkson and radio head and id add Elephunk – Black eyed peas, Jay-z the black album+ blueprint 3 if tht not to recent, and id put beyoncé b’dy up and swap college dropout for late registration – bt thts a uk take on it.
As a devout Destiny’s Child stan since 1997 – present, I say without even a hint of hateration that Survivor was their weakest album. It had a few successful singles, but as a collection of music, it was flimsy, overproduced, and devoid of depth. “Dangerously In Love” was probably the biggest stand out, and it was Beyonce’s album that made it as prominent as it is. Destiny Fulfilled, while nowhere near as popular and obviously a rushed bone thrown to us longtime fans wanting the DC chapter completed properly with one more album, had better songs, better vocals from all three ladies, and better writing/production. It wouldn’t make my list, but neither would Survivor.
Surprised to see not a single Beyonce album made the cut, especially if Survivor could make it. Dangerously In Love introduced a superstar and contained what many critics hail as one of the decade’s best songs: Crazy In Love.
Ne-Yo’s In My Own Words is one of my favorite albums still.
