First off, is that Leona Lewis in the video? Looks a lot like her! When I first heard Coldest Winter on the 808′s and Heartbreaks album, I thought it was more about his mom and her passing. But watching this video, I gather a whole new meaning for it. This chilling and very haunting clip seems to speak in metaphors of Kanye’s former fiancee and his feelings surrounding their breakup. Ye is not in the clip at all, but this video tells an excellent story for one of Kanye’s best songs. The video was directed by Nabil Elderkin, who also directed West’s Paranoid video, which featured Rihanna. Spotted at UHTN. QUESTION: What’s your take on this video?

It’s a woman in a wedding dress (commitment) running from a dark stranger (Kanye) who resembles the grand reaper (death). She has to choose between the darkness (Kanye) and the light (cliff) which seems like freedom. It seems like the light (freedom) saves her, but as she falls, the light turns into darkness, and we see she made the wrong choice. Now she is lost and falling deep. Damn, should have chose Kanye. Should have been there for him in his darkest moments. Now, look what you lost. *yawns*
My thing is doesn’t Kanye have Amber now, and Alexis hasn’t said one bad thing about him publicly, so just leave it alone, even if she doing things behind the scenes.
Ummm, no! I like the original, and too much time has gone by. Too much spacial distance from this event for me to try and understand the concept. Generally, I like metaphors and symbols, but I have moved on and hope he has, too. Maybe he’s realizing what he lost, or maybe he’s realizing she’s the one that lost. But, it doesn’t matter because she is not in the limelight, and she moved on gracefully, unlike some stars. I don’t understand why open new wounds, when no one is talking about it. I really hope he moves on, and if he thinks he has, this video proves otherwise.
I love Kanye, and I appreciate his musical genius. However, I am waiting for the next Kanye album, not revisiting the old.
