In his plush and ultra-swagged out Atlanta home, Lyfe Jennings unwinds. ATL temperatures are reaching a dry high in the mid-80′s and the soulful crooner is just getting in from a kindergarten graduation ceremony – for his son. The joy on his face is unmistakable: proud father, and that’s part of the reason for his brief hiatus from music. In that brief time away, he concluded one deal with Sony and birthed his own label Jesus Swings which will serve as the platform for his newest release I Still Believe, hitting stores and online outlets July 27, 2010.
With his previous projects, Jennings achieved notable success with singles charting on
Billboard and songs that are recognizable everywhere. But even with his mainstream success, Lyfe remains focused on the message in his music. “I can’t think of another mainstream artist that does what I does, that always puts out something positive. If you look back at my track record of all my singles, I’ve ALWAYS put out something positive.” And that includes Statistics, his newest single where Jennings breaks relationships down by the numbers. With lyrics like “Don’t be a booty call, if he don’t respect you girl, he gon’ forget you girl‘, there’s only one word to describe his approach: blunt. “I’m just blunt, I just don’t know no other way to be”.
That blunt mindset earned Lyfe some criticism from fans on a recent interview he did with Bossip, where in our interview he addresses statements that he made saying he would date a stripper. He also discusses in great detail his new album I Still Believe, the single Statistics and what we can expect from his new label Jesus Swings. We also discussed his philanthropic involvement and community outreach. Check out our interview with Lyfe Jennings and some behind the scenes footage below where you can listen to his new single ‘Statistics’!
