The song itself flashes back to the early 90′s, and the video follows suit for Jazmine Sullivan’s new single Holdin’ You Down. There’s a lot of hip-hop star power in this fun house-party-themed clip, including Salt-N-Pepa, Missy, Doug E. Fresh and more! Initially the single didn’t really capture my attention, but it’s grown on me. However, the remix is even hotter (click to listen) and I hear there’s a video in the works for the remix so stay tuned. Her new album Love Me Back is comin’ soon! Read the rest of this entry »

REMIXED: Jazmine Sullivan ft. Mary J. Blige – Holding You Down
Swizz Beatz cranks up the remix for Jazmine Sullivan’s latest single Holding You Down (Going In Circles) which features the incomparable Mary J. Blige. The original features some interpolations of Blige’s hit Be Happy, while the remix pairs the two songstresses together with some warm-toned harmonies and one of Swizz’s craziest tracks. Jazmine’s new album, Love Me Back is scheduled for release late next month, September 28. It’s sure to be a banger!!
Sound-Savvy Says: Jazmine and Mary?? Now THAT’S fancy…
NEW MUSIC: Jazmine Sullivan – Holdin’ You Down (Goin’ In Circles)
Got new music from R&B songstress Jazmine Sullivan… Here’s what we know about her second album: there will be one. Yep, that’s it. So far, no title, no release date, no confirmed collaborators. Her first one was enough to give me faith in the second one though. Holdin’ You Down is okay, doesn’t blow me away. I need her to come harder. Check out her new track, let me know what ya think! UNRELEASED: Jazmine Sullivan – Fame
Another hot one from the lovely Ms. Jazmine Sullivan. Not quite sure why this one was left off her debut album, but Fame sounds like a good followup to Dream Big. I can’t help but to love her voice and the conviction she has on this joint… sophomore album is surely on the way…

Video: Ace Hood feat. Jazmine Sullivan and Rick Ross – Champion

Let’s talk Motivation Muzik: this is the epitome of the term if I ever saw it. Cheap graphics aside, this video is VERY REAL and really depicts the story of true champions. Jazmine Sullivan rips the hook and Rick Ross adds some fire to his verse as well. This song should be an inspiration to anyone who has a dream: they can’t tell you NOTHING!! Be a champion and go after what’s yours!
Ace Hood feat. Rick Ross and Jazmine Sullivan – Champion
I never really paid much attention to Ace Hood, but I like this new song from him – probably because Jazmine Sullivan blazes the hook. But beyond that, Ace spits some real talk on this record and it’s very inspirational. The Runners contributed a hot beat and this song is a great anthem, set to appear on Ace Hood’s sophomore release Ruthless, due out June 30.
Video: Jazmine Sullivan – Dream Big
I smell endorsement deals… I really think this will be the single to catapult Jazmine Sullivan into a whole new realm of fame. The motivational Dream Big makes single #4 for the soulful songstress, off her debut album Fearless. I think this is the prettiest she’s looked in a video, not that she’s ever looked bad, but style-wise I think they got it right with this one! I’m a huge fan of Jazmine’s work and I’m so glad she put out this song, with it’s positive message and motivating lyrics. The song says it all… DREAM BIG!!

EDITED: Video: Jazmine Sullivan – Lions, Tigers & Bears
Green screen videos seem to be, once again, an increasing trend. I mean, for a minute there I thought T-Pain was gonna pop up outta nowhere! Anyway, I’m diggin this one a little more than the clip for Bust Your Windows but not by much. Visually, it’s vivid, but come on… what really does it say?!!? First of all, can we get my girl some better threads? Why does it look like her stylist is working on a really short leash?? Then the dress AND the leather jacket? Even Tyra makes the Top Models lose all that excess clothing at panel. And someone PLEASE kill that damn Exxon tiger!! This truly is one of my favorite songs by her. The song just says sooo much in such a creative and unique way but her videos continually disappoint me…

I can’t forget the first time I heard the voice – I was in the car and the reggae-influenced I Need U Bad started playing. Instantly, I connected with the soulfulness of her voice, the passion and emotion through which she connected to the song. She gave me hints of Lauryn Hill but much stronger vocally. Then, a few months later I came across Lions, Tigers and Bears and, in that moment, I became a fan of the artist that is Jazmine Sullivan. Fearless is indeed a bold debut, as she breaks the confines of genre to bring a soulful variety of emotions coupled with a range of musical styles. Lyrically it’s very REAL and her experiences make a genuine connection with her audience.
The album opens with the second single, Bust Your Windows, a tale of heartbreak-turned-vengeance told over a waltz-y Salaam Remi instrumental that could easily back the next James Bond theme. On Call Me Guilty, Jazmine reclaims her life from an abusive lover by exacting the ultimate revenge. I love how she serves up the heartbreak on the brutally honest In Love With Another Man, and then flips that honesty into a cheery, almost whimsical flaunt on Switch, where she falls for the charm of his best friend. Even on the upbeat tracks like One Night Stand and Live A Lie there is a nice mesh of old school flavor with Jazmine’s powerhouse vocals. Next to the orchestra-backed Lions, Tigers and Bears, my other personal favorite song is the equally impressive After The Hurricane (Stargate); her raw vocals mixed with the piano melody do justice to liken her stormy love affair to a reckless force of nature.
Fearless is the album that sets Jazmine apart from her counterparts in the industry. This album embraces music on all levels and mixes Jazmine’s R&B soul with elements of reggae, jazz, gospel and hip-hop. Unabashedly, she shares her honesty and her perspective with her listeners through her self-written lyrics and connects their emotions to her own. This album lives up to it’s hype as one of the greatest debut albums I’ve heard all year, though it still leaves room for her to continue her growth and fearlessly rise quite a few levels above her competition.
