Estelle drops off two new videos for her latest single Fall In Love, which features her mentor and label-head John Legend on one mix of the track and NY-rapper Nas on the other. Fall In Love is a smooth and breezy groove, not too hard and not too easy. It definitely spells another hit for the London-born singer.  The video follows Estelle as she catches the eye of an admiring onlooker. Personally I prefer the Nas-featured version of the track, he offers enough contrast while still balancing her soft sound on the track. Estelle is currently prepping the release of her new album All of Me, due out later this year.

Be sure to check all our footage of Estelle from the 2010 Essence Music Festival:

NEW SINGLE: Estelle ft. Nas – Fall In Love

Posted by Mack On May - 27 - 2010

I’m actually kinda diggin the direction of this sound from Estelle – but I wish she could’ve expanded on it more. It just seems to be lacking something. I like how Fall In Love shifts focus to her vocals but even with a heavy hitter like Nas on the track it’s not an instant favorite, but I think it’ll grow on me. Sonically, it’s very reminiscent of American Boy in its composition, just with a slower tempo. Fall In Love is the new single from Estelle’s forthcoming album All Of Me. Most recently, Estelle was nominated for Best International Act on the upcoming BET Awards and she’ll be performing at this year’s Essence Music Festival. Check it out… what ya think? DJ Khaled ft. Nas and John Legend – Victory

Posted by Mack On February - 9 - 2010

I’m kinda likin’ this joint! I respect both Nas and John Legend as masters at their art forms, but together this is a great song. It’s set to appear on Khaled’s new Victory album, which will have guest appearances from Usher, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy and Busta Rhymes among others. I’mma go ahead and stamp this joint APPROVED, what say you? Read the rest of this entry »

You may recall us putting you on to the original version a while back. Here’s the remix featuring Nas, Jadakiss, Rick Ross, and former Badboy whiteboy Kain. Amerie’s Love & War album is scheduled to release August 11th via Def Jam. Props to Sav.

New Music: Rick Ross feat. Nas – The Usual Suspects

Posted by Mack On March - 30 - 2009

Wow!! The biggest boss Officer Ricky Ross is setting up for what sounds like his best album yet with this latest track featuring Nas. The Usual Suspects is one of those real smooth cuts that makes you wanna lean back, light a cigar, and toast to the good life. Sure 50 Cent may be killing Ross in this over-hyped beef, but Ross’ lyric game knocks 50 Cent out of the ballpark with ease. Check out the latest cut from the album Deeper Than Rap, slated for an April 21st release date.
So Nas has revisited his ’96 hit If I Ruled The World, first made popular with Lauryn Hill on the hook. This version is more updated, with dreams now realized due to recent achievements (i.e. Obama’s win, etc.) However, I don’t think this one can touch the original. If he wanted to update the song, he shouldn’t have changed so much – Lauryn Hill should have remained on the hook (which would have been a great comeback opportunity for her), the beat should have been more similar to the original, and I really feel like he covered so much more content in his original version and this one is rather limited. Sorry Nas, I’m not feelin this update…

Dr. Dre feat T.I. and Nas – Topless

Posted by Mack On February - 20 - 2009

One of these days, Dr. Dre is gonna actually release Detox and satisfy all the fans that have been longing for this release for the past few years that he’s been working on it. With so much work put in, it had better be a monumental hip-hop release. Until then, however, sate your palate with Topless (trust me, it ain’t what you think!), the latest track from (presumably) the Detox album. Looks like Dre, Em and 50 are all planning to reclaim the charts this year. Most anticipated of the three? Let’s just say, he can still “keep their heads ringin…”

New Ludacris with Nas AND Jay-Z: I Do It For Hip-Hop

Posted by Mack On November - 17 - 2008

Is there really a better reason to do it? 3 of the hottest rappers on one blazing track… I Do It For Hip Hop is the latest from Luda’s forthcoming album Theater of the Mind, due out on November 25. I’ve always respected Luda as a lyricist and a rapper and this track is just one of the reasons why. A lot of these new rappers need to hear this and really consider the reason they’re doing music — better yet, everyone should listen to this, no matter what you do. If you’re doing anything for the money, or the fame or the superficial reasons, then your foundation isn’t solid and it’s sure to fall through eventually. But when you fully commit yourself to an art, if you do it for the love of the craft then success is both inevitable and immeasurable… chew on that.

In God’s Son We Trust

Posted by Mack On July - 10 - 2008
The people need someone to believe in, so in God’s Son we trust
‘Cause they know I’mma give ‘em what they want – taken from Hero

Artist: Nas
Album: Untitled
Release Date: 7.15.08

It’s about time… It’s about time someone stopped makin it rain. It’s about time someone stopped trying to “Supaman dat hoe” and said something worthy of a real hero. Nine albums deep in the game, and Nasty Nas is still pickin your brain and provoking thoughts. Nothin’ against Weezy and Soulja Boy, but there comes a time when you’ve gotta use the power of the voice you have to speak for those who don’t have one. Check below to read the official Sound-Savvy review of Nas’
Untitled

Mack: People will have a hard time admitting it but Nas is the best active rapper in the game right now
Mello: oh yea
Mack: and people won’t like some of his music because it’s the truth…
Mello: I saw the comment that someone left and I agree
Mack: yeah, Sane
Mello: he’s the only one that aint out here wanting to make it rain
Mack: he’s better than Weezy, and he’s always been 10 levels above 50 cent
Mello: he’s a real lyricist and I love this album
Mack: and he has something to say… this whole album is a history lesson and a wake up call all rolled into one. Hero was the perfect lead single; lyrically it just gives way to everything else on the album… it’s a story of his own rise and maturity. He put in a nice catchy hook to grab the attentions of the masses and say “Hey look over here!” then when you get the album, he inundates you with the truth
Mello: exactly
Mack: Sly Fox is definitely gonna turn some heads… he’s takin on the major media outlets
Mello: which is why I love it
Mack: and Fried Chicken is some real talk!! Busta’s like “I’mma eat some shit until what I’m eatin kills me. And I choose to do that. Why? Because that’s just what niggas do…”
Mello: exactly… I love it!
Mack: I’m pretty sure he won’t do as well as Weezy in sales, but as far as the quality of music, Nas has got it by a long shot. So let Weezy have the Billboard awards… Nas deserves the Grammy!
Mello: yea, wit this album, its a public service announcement: “Niggas exist in all nationalities!” That’s a classic line. We Make the World Go Round wit Chris Brown is a nice piece
Mack: yeah, another lil somethin to attract the younger listeners… make them sit down and listen
Mello: “in america you’ll never be free, middle fingers up, fuck the police”
Mack: I really believe this dude is hip hop’s hero… he’s a teacher… and hip-hop is his classroom
Mello:the fundamentals of hip-hop have been resurrected with this album. As I stated in my is hip hop dead post it didn’t die, its been put in a time capsule 2 be resurrected
Mack: and the good thing is, it speaks to EVERYONE… a lot of people would listen on the surface and think he’s pro-black but he’s pro-American, pro-earth, pro-Obama, pro-equality.
Mello: “Wake up America…its not what you think it is”
Mack: He uses his music wisely too. There’s a lot of emotion in some of the tracks that Nas can’t convey in his voice so he lets the music do it for him. Like the anger you can tell he feels in Sly Fox… the guitar on the track does justice to convey how he feels
Mack: or the sadness he feels for the ignorance of our whole country on America; the strings, the background singer… everything around him conveys his emotion while he delivers the message
Mello: we welcome the rebirth of hip-hop
Mack: it’s a REAL album… Nas has a lot to say
Mello: and sad 2 say..becuz of folks’ ignorance they won’t listen. He will capture @ least ONE persons attention… he definately caught mine
Mack: “No matter what the CD called I’m unbeatable y’all” Let’s GO ESCO!!!
