Aight, so here’s Sammie’s new mixtape. Not sure when I’ll give this a listen but I sure hope it’s better than the last one, where EVERYTHING sounded like Trey Songz. Last time I tweeted Sammie my thoughts on his music, he got his panties in a bunch and started a Twitter rant about “hatin’ ass bloggers”. So let me set the record clear: I’ve always supported Sammie because I believe he has a great voice and potential but I don’t feel like that last mixtape showcased either. Everything sounded like Trey Songz outtakes from the Ready album – that’s not comparing Sammie to Trey, that’s an observation. Even the ad libs. This blogger doesn’t kiss ass or tell you what you wanna hear. If I like it, I’ll say so. If I don’t I’ll say so. And I’ll tell you why. Put on your big girl panties and deal…  That being said, I’ve scanned the first half of this and so far it’s okay. Click the image below to download…

Sammie’s dropping a new mixtape (It’s Just A Mixtape – no really, that’s the title!) June 22, so make sure you check back for it. Make Pretend is a track that hit the net which will likely appear on the mixtape. The song is just okay, nothing amazing. My issue with his Swag & B mixtape was that everything sounded like Trey Songz scraps – from the melodies and production all the way down to Sammie’s ad libs. I later found that they have some of the same behind-the-scenes folks. With his new mixtape, I’m hoping he finds his own sound. His voice has a great tone and can be distinctive if he uses it properly. He needs music with more focus on melody, less focus on beats. Make Pretend is okay, the vocals get a bit annoying with that stacked sound, especially since he doesn’t need it. That’s my take on it… you decide… Read the rest of this entry »

Normally I don’t post clips like this, but these two have just laid a cover of one of my favorite songs OF ALL TIME: Brokenhearted by Brandy and Wanya Morris. The great thing is that both of them have amazing voices and really work the song out nicely. Since I’m such a fan of the original I think this should be slower and more true to the original to give their vocals a chance to really work it out, but this version ain’t bad at all! When he’s not blasting bloggers, Sammie actually makes some nice music. I’m diggin this new Cornaboyz-produced joint. He’s still working on his new album Coming of Age, but this joint may appear on the new EP It’s Time set to drop early next year.
