Trey Songz – Death of Autotune Kellz!

Posted by Mack On June - 9 - 2009

Leave it to Trey Songz to light the fire under R. Kelly’s ass. *PAUSE* Songz spit some real talk on this track and made some good points, but as much as he wants to defend this remix, it is what it is – a DISS record, so he may as well own up to it. It’s nothing wrong if he makes it his mission to overcome Kellz in the same way that Kellz overcame Aaron Hall, the purpose of success is to outdo your predecessor, but a natural succession would seem more appropriate than this lyrical stompout imposed by Songz. Hard to say if this will help or hurt him, I’m not sure Trey has won over enough true R&B fans to win a fight against R. Kelly. Liken this to Jay-Z making a diss track in 95 against Biggie to put the shiny suits away – Jay never woulda made it.

I’m not a huge fan of the band Journey but Don’t Stop Believin’ is, without a doubt, one of my favorite songs of all time, definitely a must-have on the soundtrack of my life. I indulged my curiosity last week and gave in to the pressure from TJ of Neon Limelight to watch Fox’s premiere of its new show Glee. Pleasantly surprised was I with the mix of humor, music, and overall corny-ness. Shouts to TJ from Neon Limelight, if it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t have watched. The cast closed out it’s pilot episode with a cover of this classic Journey tune which I found pretty impressive. I’d also heard RL from Next cover this song on his R&B mixtape which hit the net back in March. I liked his version, but I think theirs won me over. Which do you prefer?

New Music from Craig David – Escort U

Posted by Mack On May - 5 - 2009

Ahh yes, we all remember Craig David – Mr. Fill-Me-In and Slicker Than Your Average. His British style and swagger brought a freshness to pop music when he crossed over to the US Charts at the start of the decade. I haven’t heard much from him in recent years, but I came across this track, check it out. Seems like his usual style, which I actually kinda like…

Ciara – Like A Surgeon

Posted by Mack On April - 21 - 2009
Mack: This joint is aight, it’s not bad. I’m trying my best not to pre-judge Fantasy Ride, Ciara’ s next album scheduled to be released in the next few weeks. Some of the cuts I’ve heard are really good, but then others sound like there’s no evolution from Ciara, kinda like this one… Sounds like a scrap or B-side from her last album, The Evolution.

Johnta Austin – Take It Back

Posted by Mack On April - 14 - 2009
Mack: What more can I say about Johnta? Another hot joint!

Mack: Not bad… And yes the picture you see above is Cassie. In a stunning attempt to attract media attention and build buzz around her un-anticipated sophomore album, Cassie chopped off most of her hair. She announced her new look this past weekend via Twitter, sending pics to accompany. With a lackluster music career, I certainly hope this new look doesn’t take away from her modeling career. Back to the song, The Dream is a hitmaker, so he does his thing with this song. It’s catchy and pretty poppy. I think it’s a good look for Cassie, but the haircut… eh, not so much…

Day26 – One Night Only (Bonus Track)

Posted by Mack On April - 14 - 2009

Mack: Yes!! Finally a slow jam without Willie all over it! This is the type of track that should have made the album!! Shouts to my homie Keishia, who LOVES this song. She and I have a mutual problem: Some of the hottest songs were the ones they recorded during this season of the show – AND THEY DIDN’T MAKE THE ALBUM! One way to rectify this? Repackage the album and include these unreleased joints. I really LIKE Day 26, but the album was nowhere near as good as it should have and could have been…

“It was the only day the angels ever cried…”

It’s Good Friday all around the world. I don’t mean to alienate or offend anyone with my beliefs, but today is the day that we remember Christ’s long walk to calvary, to purge a world of sin. This song is very significant in paying homage to the debt of a lifetime, a price no one else could pay. Easter is a time to be thankful for God’s grace and mercy. Enjoy the flashback joint…

The original was fine… Rick Ross and Juelz on this remix is a bit too much. This is a song for the ladies, so if ANY rapper were to remix it, I would much rather have heard Eve resurrect her lyric game and spit some hotness on this track to give it that extra feminine push with edge. Rick Ross was just starting to grow on me, but he should fall back from this joint… Juelz too!
