TRY THIS: Katie Thompson – Heaven Is A Place On Earth

Posted by Mack On July - 29 - 2010

Everyone should hear this!! On this week’s episode of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, contestant Robert and all-star Kathryn did a contemporary dance routine to this amazing song by Katie Thompson. She put a very soulful spin on Belinda Carlisle’s classic Heaven Is A Place on Earth. The original was an 80′s pop hit that rose to #1 on the Billboard charts; I can honestly say this remake has the potential to do the same. Thompson really pulls out the beauty in the melody of this song… her version is simply amazing!! More will be coming from this artist, I’m purchasing her album on iTunes now and plan to share my thoughts. For now, enjoy and download…

Someone… somewhere… has unlimited faith in Marques Houston’s career. I, on the other hand, do not. I am a realist, and reality says that if a Rick Ross feature can’t save your track, you’re doomed. Houston’s career lacks, above everything else, originality and creativity. It’s almost like he sits back, waits for new trends/new sounds, and then copies them. Well, maybe that explains the Rick Ross feature. Oh Roger…

The new album,  Mattress Music, July 27…

NEW MUSIC from Ciara: Blauw

Posted by Mack On May - 1 - 2010

New music from Ciara… Blauw. This joint is actually alright, it’s not too bad. It could possibly appear on her forthcoming album Basic Instinct. I still think she can push herself further creatively. Although this one isn’t bad, it could be better. Keep workin Cici. Read the rest of this entry »

Dear Kiely Williams,

Please log out of your music career. And life in general for real… This song is disturbing to the point that I’m ashamed to have even pressed play at my desk… and I’m wearing EARBUDS!! It’s cool that you wanted to ditch the Disney act, but WHY SO EXTREME? We get it, you’re not a kid anymore but we didn’t know you stopped being a lady too. At first, I thought this might be a warning to young women about date rape or maybe the dangers of drinking too much and having unprotected sex. But then I realized one  key factor: YOU’RE. GLORIFYING. IT! With lyrics like “I hope he used a rubber or Imma be in trouble.  Promise I don’t remember, except for rolling over” this song is the perfect recipe for a Maury episode. You don’t need a sponsor, you need a father figure and an ass whoopin!! I’m sure your younger demographic will appreciate knowing that if they can’t succeed at anything else they can always turn to hoe shit. This is pathetic and worthless… WHERE’S YO DADDY??? NEW MUSIC: Brandy – Today

Posted by Mack On March - 24 - 2010

Dear Brandy,

I’m a concerned fan and I want another new album. I like your bathroom singing and all, but do me some justice with another full length album I can go spend my money on. A lot of these leaks are dope as hell, like this one. With that new album, I need you to do a tour too. You don’t have to do a whole lot of dancing, but you got enough hits to do a great show. This joint Today, it’s not single-level but it deserves album placement fa sho! Sounds like it could have been one of the joints scrapped from the Human album.

NEW MUSIC: Mario – Need To Be There

Posted by Mack On March - 5 - 2010

Another unreleased joint from one of the most underrated artists in R&B music. Mario spices this joint a pretty nice harmony arrangement. I’m feelin this joint as a nice chill type song, but not a radio hit. It’s something that I feel would make an album complete, but not single quality. Check out our review of his last album D.N.A. and listen to Need To Be There after the jump… Read the rest of this entry »

Wiz Khalifa – Cabin Fever x XXL Freshman 10 FREESTYLE

Posted by Mack On February - 17 - 2010

Shouts to Wiz Khalifa for makin XXL’s Freshman Top 10 list for this year. I’ll admit I was late gettin turned on to homie’s music, but I downloaded the Burn After Rollin’ mixtape — FIRE!!! Sleep no longer on Wiz Khalifa, his lyric game is the truth. I’d like to hear him on a major record alongside someone like Nas or Eminem. As far as newcomers, I could hear him easily on a smash wit the homie J. Cole. Take a listen to Cabin Fever and watch his XXL Freestyle Read the rest of this entry »

DECADE Wrap-UP: Sound-Savvy’s Top Albums Of The 2000′s

Posted by Mack On December - 31 - 2009

It’s December 31st, 2009 — the last day of the month, year, and decade. If you’re anything like me, you’ve listened to a LOT of music this past decade. Last night on Mindstream Radio, I counted down my top 11 hip-hop and R&B albums, but there are a few that I couldn’t announce last night for the sake of time that need to make it on the Top Albums of the 2000′s list. So here’s my complete list…By the way, this list is NOT RANKED, these are just my personal favorites over the past 10 years. Read the rest of this entry »

VIDEO: Amerie ft. Fabolous – More Than Love

Posted by Mack On December - 24 - 2009

To catch a cheater is the goal in this new video from Amerie and Fabolous. Great video by the way and ladies, take note: your girlfriends don’t know EVERYTHING. More Than Love is one of the best cuts off her latest album In Love and War, which wasn’t quite as strong as I’d hoped (review here)  but still had some very enjoyable cuts, like this one… Shouts to @nairda17 for the link!
