Recently, I read an interview Monica did to talk about her upcoming sixth album,
Lessons Learned. As a fan of Monica, I really hope there were some lessons learned going into this new project. Just being honest, I didn't really like
The Makings of Me, but I didn't dislike it. She sounded good, but her focus seemed to be in the wrong place. I like when Monica does the upbeat stuff like
Everytime The Beat Drop so that wasn't my issue. What the last album lacked was that IT factor that Monica brings to her records. Gone were the power ballads that made us fall in love with her like
For You I Will, and
Angel of Mine. They were replaced with a lot of lackluster content and vocals that were just
okay and I can't get used to that. Monica is quoted as saying she's "going back to where I started" with the new album. I'm hoping that we get some real R&B with this record, a little reminder of why she's Miss Thang. After all, that's why we love her so much...
