Review: Coko - A Coko Christmas

Artist: Coko (formerly of SWV)
Album: A Coko Christmas
Release Date: 10.14.08

If you're looking for that even balance of soulful gospel with traditional Christmas cheer, look no further than A Coko Christmas. Coko of acclaimed 90's girl group SWV greets the season with a new Christmas project that blends the sound of the spirit with some classic Christmas carols. This seasonal project showcases that powerhouse voice that characterized much of SWV’s music throughout the 90’s, probably best heard on The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire). Other notable highlights include Holy, a mellow cover of the Jackson 5 original Give Love on Christmas Day which also features American Idol contestant George Huff, and she teams up with her SWV sisters for a stirring rendition of O Holy Night to close out the album (previously included on the SWV Christmas album A Special Christmas). I'd recommend this for anyone who appreciates and values the true reason for the season. Maybe with this release, SWV fans will get their Christmas wish: a reunion album next year...
