Title: New Amerykah: Part One: 4th World War
Artist: Erykah Badu
Release Date: 2.26.08
'Keep in mind, I'm an artist, and I'm sensitive bout my shit... E.Badu
Ms. Badu is back like the second coming, this time she's packing a mean two-piece. Many have patiently waited for what they would think as classic characterized Badu; catchy hooks, unique beats, and wild, but imaginative lyrics. However, with this album New Amerykah, she gives the listener, whether young or old, a trip down memory lane; past & present. A crucial history lesson as seen through her eyes on issues dealing with corrupt America- the land of milk & honey, or is it?
Releasing Honey as the first single, you might find yourself reminiscing to those memories of bamboo earrings donned with your name, big boomboxes, and folks beat-boxing on your neighborhood street corner. AHHH, the memories! You'd anticipate the rest of the album to have a free flowing vibe, however. that is not the case.
WARNING! Its highly recommended one listen to this album with an open mind. Digging beneath the surface, Soldier, a track laced with a catchy two-step beat, but has an overall lesson of MAJOR CHANGE, ...they be trying to hide our history..if you agree say yessirrreee..to the folks on the picket line, dont stop 'til you change their mind... Ponder on that for a moment. History is history, and no matter how much we censor truth, the fact still remains, its truth.
Tick, tock, tick, tock, goes the sound of the drum on That Hump, a song in which we all can relate. If I could just get over that hump, then maybe I'll feel better.. A definite character builder. A test of that which don't kill you can only make you stronger. Im living check to check, just trying to pay my rent. She really puts herself in the shoes of the average working class citizen, assuring she does know what its like to struggle.
If you were looking for sugar-coated Erykah, chances are you didn't find her residing on 4th World War. This album is very appropriate for the current state in which we are living. She wrote outside the margin & wasn't afraid of the red ink. If there were such a category for things that make you go hmmm, this album would definately be at the top. Pump your fists in the air, its time to get liberated!

I love this album from Erykah. It is very deep which she has always been. You can hear the passion in every song on this album and it does make you want to stop and look at the world we are currently living in...and do something about it.
Can't wait for part 2!
