VH1 Divas Re-CAP by JayVee of TheRoundTable

Shouts to JayVee from The RoundTable! She is a great blogger, friend and had the privilege of attending the VH1 Divas show LIVE last night and wrote a wonderful re-cap:
Video: Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone

Love, love LOVE this song! This is the song that started the controversy involving Clarkson, Beyonce and songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder of One Republic. This song has the same backing track as Beyonce's Halo, but if I had to choose one, hands down I'm going with Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone. Lyrically it's a lot more involved, and she makes better use of the track, whereas Beyonce's song isn't quite as filling. As for the video, this is very classy and Kelly looks great! Check out Already Gone on her 4th album All I Ever Wanted, in stores NOW!
Kelly Clarkson vs. Beyonce
If you've got either of these two albums, you may notice one very similar track on each - and this highlights a growing problem in the industry - recycled tracks. When prepping her 4th album, All I Ever Wanted, Kelly Clarkson teamed up with One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder to pen one of the highlight songs of her album, Already Gone. Tedder provided the track while Clarkson penned the lyrics and the result was a hit which has now become the album's third single.
Already Gone - Kelly Clarkson
When producers and writers re-use tracks like that, it shortchanges the artists and the consumers. It replaces a slot for quality original work with something that's already done, but there are examples of this all throughout the industry. Leona Lewis' Forgive Me is a recycled track that Akon provided Gwen Stefani for Sweet Escape. Ciara's latest single Work from the Fantasy Ride album, is a track by Danja originally used by Danity Kane for their song Pretty Boy. And the number of songs that followed Lil Jon's 'Yeah!' formula is pretty high. Add Ne-yo and Avril Lavigne to the list of guilty writers/producers as well.
The list could go on, but what do you think about this trend of producers re-using tracks in the industry? Is it fair? Is it lazy? Do you even care?
Video: Kelly Clarkson - I Do Not Hook Up

Oh come on... we've ALL been there: You're out somewhere, whether it's a boring corporate meeting or a drab ceremony of some kind when a random raunchy thought pops into your head and mentally, you explore the possibilities of the inescapable "What If". They say men go through this every 7 seconds of their lives on average, but I shall neither confirm nor deny that allegation! I must say though, I love the rocker/party girl side of Kelly Clarkson in this video; it was time for a switch from her darker videos and sad undertones. If you haven't gotten All I Ever Wanted yet, "put the bottle down, cause you don't wanna miss out..."
New Single: Kelly Clarkson - I Do Not Hook Up
I can't stress enough how much I love All I Ever Wanted, the new album from Kelly Clarkson. I Do Not Hook Up is the second single from this project, written by Katy Perry and newly added American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. This is gonna be one that the ladies can all rock out to, and it makes a great party song. Check out the review of Clarkson's new album here, and enjoy the new single...Album Review: Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted
Album Review: Kelly Clarkson - All I Ever Wanted
Since her win on the inaugural season of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson has sung her way into the hearts of millions around the world. She’s a rebel that’s got soul, and with the release of All I Ever Wanted, she’s doing it all over again. Sonically, this album is a happy medium between the soulful rock of her sophomore LP Breakaway and the gothic disposition of its follow-up My December. Here you’ll find satisfaction in her far-reaching vocals combined with heart-wrenching lyrics and a strong rock edge.
The album opens with the introductory single My Life Would Suck Without You which sounds far too much like her previous smash Since You’ve Been Gone. But then there are more rock-heavy cuts like I Do Not Hook Up (originally written by and for girl-kisser Katy Perry) that are just as radio-friendly with infectious hooks and edgy production. My personal favorite of the rocked out cuts is Don’t Let Me Stop You, a story of one-sided commitment and the strength to dismiss her half-hearted lover. “Don’t let me stop you, if you wanna leave baby you can leave, just don’t pretend that you’re into me if it ain’t true…” If I Can’t Have You is just one of the many guitar heavy tracks that pairs Clarkson with Ryan Tedder, lead singer of OneRepublic and contributing writer on much of the album. Other notable tracks include Long Shot, and the simple yet sentimental I Want You.
As expected, this project shines the most in its slower moments. Of the slow cuts, Cry is one of the most impressive in that every element of the song works together to deliver the sentiments that cannot be conveyed with words. Already Gone has an ethereal feel and is characterized by its airy, angelic vocals. If parting is truly a sweet sorrow, then Save You provides the soundtrack, very somber in nature with an interesting classical piano lead on the bridge. Ready has more of a country music feel to it and though it isn’t my favorite, I enjoy the laidback nature. If No One Will Listen closes out the project, a stunning cover from Keri Noble’s Fearless album (2004).
Where rock music and soul music collide, there you’ll find Kelly Clarkson - a fitting place for the Texas-bred singer with the voice that will find it’s name among the top voices of this era. In mostly every way All I Ever Wanted presents itself as a standout in her catalog. With no shame, I readily admit that I love Kelly Clarkson and I love this album. Creatively speaking, it’s all I ever wanted from her…
Sound-Savvy officially rates All I Ever Wanted with 4 out of 5 platinum headphones.

It's sooooo great to see Kelly Clarkson return with such a sunny disposition in this video. Her last two albums had some pretty heavy content, which indicated that the skies weren't always so sunny in her world. I like the playfulness of this video and the lightheartedness of the song, although it is very reminiscent of Since You've Been Gone. This is the first single from the American Idol winner's forthcoming album All I Ever Wanted, set to hit stores on March 10th.

At long last, the leader of the American Idol pack is back on her way to the top of the charts. Announcing her upcoming 4th studio album, All I Ever Wanted, Kelly Clarkson returns with the album's first single: My Life Would Suck Without You. On her last album, Kelly ditched a lot of her pop sound for a heavier rock sound and darker vibe. With Clive Davis back on the boards, it sounds like Kelly is back to her pop roots; this track is very reminiscent of her earlier smash Since You've Been Gone. I'm anxious to hear her new project, which hits stores March 17th. Stay tuned!!Happy Thanksgiving!!

Ruben, oh Ruben… wherefore art thou? If you don’t watch Idol, then you probably wouldn’t know that this is the song to boot this year – literally. This is the song that’s played when contestants get the boot just before their tearful farewell performance. Don’t get your hopes up though, this isn’t new material from Ruben, it’s a gospel-y cover of an old Kenny Loggins song. Still makes for a good listen though…

He was a favorite during his season of Idol, and R&B crooner Elliott Yamin is making some great music these days. If you’re a true fan of R&B music, there’s no way you can pass up this guy’s music. If I had to choose one word to describe One Word, all I can say is amazing…
Song: What About Now?
Idol: Daughtry
Album: Daughtry
Video Link (Idol Gives Back performance)
What About Now is a charity single for Idol Gives Back, is a cut off the debut album, Daughtry, from the prominent Idol rocker Chris Daughtry. The video clip I’ve included is to the live performance from this season’s Idol Gives Back episode, and totally captures the sensitivity in the song. You can’t help but feel it. As for the album: I highly recommend it, probably the best debut of all the Idols in the history of the competition.
Song: Permanent Monday
Idol: Jordin Sparks
Album: Jordin Sparks
The current American Idol, Jordin Sparks’ self titled-debut is already gold. Permanent Monday isn’t an official single, but it’s a cut off her CD that’s getting some airplay. There’s no official video for it. It’s a little bit country and a little bit of rock n’ roll…
