AMERICAN IDOL Kris Allen's Video Debut - Live Like We're Dying

Not sure how I feel about this song. Great message, but I'm not really feeling the composition of the song. I mean, it's okay but come on... this dude is the American Idol, right? By vote anyway... most of America (who probably didn't vote) expected Adam Lambert to win, as did I. But to the victor go the spoils, and here is Kris' debut single from his forthcoming self-titled album due out November 17th.

Album Review: Elliott Yamin - Fight For Love

Artist: Elliott Yamin
Album: Fight For Love
Release Date: 5.5.09

American Idol has proven time and time again that winning isn’t everything and losing isn't always the end, especially when you’re as good as Elliott Yamin. After finishing the fifth season in third place (behind Hicks and McPhee), Yamin has continued, like many of his fellow Idol alum, to make great music as an underdog in the industry. Those who remember Yamin from his time on the big stage may recall his moving renditions of classic soul hits like Knocks Me Off My Feet, A Song For You, and Open Arms. If that’s the Elliott you loved, then you’ll fall in love again when you hear his sophomore album Fight For Love. With this second set, Yamin reintroduces the soul singer we first met on Idol with a collection of vulnerable and emotive balladry. The lyrics are pure poetry and Yamin’s vocals put a serious emphasis on the melodies, making this much more than just another pop album.

The album’s title track also serves as its lead single, a pop-styled R&B tune penned by Johnta Austin. The project opens with the groovy Let Love Be, characterized by it’s simplicity. Know Better explores the feelings of regret after being blinded by love and ignoring your instincts. Being lovesick is never fun (“like tryin to breathe with one lung, or tryin to live without no water…”) but it makes for great music on Apart From Me. Not to be restricted to just slow jams, the pace picks up on songs like Don’t Be Afraid (a personal favorite), Cold Heart and the follow-up single You Say. But even on the uptempo songs, the vocals are equally powerful, and the strong melodies don’t take a backseat to the production – a quality that I love! While tracks like How Do I Know and This Step Alone are also noteworthy standouts, I’d have to go with You as the best song on the album. Everything seems to come together on this track, and much like the rest of the album, it’s vocally amazing without being overdone. The closing song track is one of memorial; Someday was written in the memory of Yamin’s mother, who passed in March 2008. Though somber in content, the steady beat adds an air of hope and life to the song.

Start to finish, Fight For Love is a solid sophomore album. Though it didn’t break the Billboard Top 10 in its first week, it rises in quality above many of its industry counterparts. Like most of the Idols, his first album was a bit hard to follow, but this project maintains some diversity while really stamping Yamin into his lane as a soul artist. Sonically, the project is very melodic – a risk to take in an industry dominated by pop formulas that focus more on beats and hooks rather than the real elements of music. Without reservation, I’d recommend this album to anyone in search of good music, specifically good soul music. Vocally, Elliott does some things on this album that just quite frankly gave me chills! To describe it in one word, all I can say is amazing…

Sound-Savvy officially rates Fight For Love with 4.5 out of 5 headphones.

Sound-Savvy's Open Letter to Lil Rounds

Dearest Lil,

At the start of this season of American Idol, I had selected you as one of my finalists in the competition. You blew me away with your amazing vocals and I was certain that as the competition progressed, your artistry would blossom and you would shine as the star I knew you could be. Admittedly, I was wrong. Watching your performance of the infamous smash I'm Every Woman last night made me cringe and cower on my ever-so-plush sofa. What's worse though, was your valiant defiance of the judges' criticism last night, and when you had finished your rebuttal, there was one thought in my mind - SHE DOESN'T GET IT.

Contrary to how it seems, American Idol is NOT a talent show. If you were a contestant on America's Got Talent, you'd be a front-runner. Yes, you can sing -- you can blow from here to kingdom come. But American Idol is more than a competition to find the next best singer - Idol is about finding the next great artist. Lil, each week you hit the stage and do songs that are popular and well-known but you do second-rate renditions of the original version instead of top-notch renditions of your own version. Basically: If you do Whitney's song, the same way Whitney sang it, you'll be compared to Whitney... and do you really think you're better than Whitney? But if you do Whitney's song, but do it Lil's way... who can we compare you to other than you? Sure you add in your own ad libs here and there, but there is so much you could do to transform hits by legends into hits by Lil and you don't take advantage of that freedom. If I were you, I'd have used my big vocals to transform country, disco, or poppy songs into soulful versions. There are plenty of songs you could have easily transformed and applied your own style to, but you stuck with original versions, and while you continually sounded good, you weren't creative, thus boredom ensued.

Tonight however, I'm confident that you'll see the consequence of your failure to act - you'll be sent home. You've proven a failure to keep up with your competition, as they have each infused their own levels of creativity into legendary songs, which is why they've excelled. With you, you may as well perform to an instrumental track each week, and that has become boring. And so, it's time we say goodbye. I'm disappointed, not just because you'll cost me points in the office American Idol Pool, but because I had high hopes for ya. Well we'll see you on tour this year, and maybe some label will mold you into the artist they want you to be, since you don't have an identity as an artist yet. But hey don't worry, you'll join the ranks of the other robotic pop stars on the radio, just an ex-Idol edition.

Kanye Performs Heartless on 'Idol'

Halfway through the first verse, I was wondering, "Why did everyone dog Kanye for this performance?" Then came the second verse... and everything became clear. Was it a mockery of American Idol, a show about REAL singing? Hell yes!! The best part about this performance is Kanye's haircut because I think I speak for the entire hip-hop community when I say the SHAG had to GO! Kanye, decide what you're going to be: a singer or a rapper. If you're going to perform live and attempt to sing, then put in work on your stage show so you're not running out of breath and then singing so loud that you drown out the pitch corrector that's SUPPOSED to make you sound like you've got real vocal skills. Or just lip sync... all the cool kids are doin it!

David Cook - Light On

Each Idol is known for something they brought to the show's career-launching stage. For Fantasia, it was her spirited performances. For Carrie Underwood, it was her southern charm. For Kelly Clarkson it was her huge vocals. But for the show's 7th season winner David Cook, it's all of the above - his rocker essence combined with his ability to deliver the big bold vocals and the ladies love him. During the season he wowed the audiences with his stylized performances of hits like Billie Jean, Hello and Always Be My Baby. Today (11.18.08), he releases his self-titled album led by the single Light On which contains those elements that remind fans why they fell in love with him last season. Check out the video here, but I'm counting on a second more emotive single to follow shortly and really win me over...

Album Review...DAVID ARCHULETA

Artist: David Archuleta
Album: Self-Titled David Archuleta
Release Date: 11.11.08

Stars aren't made, they're born. Who said American Idol was for amateurs? For all those that followed this last cycle will know David Archuleta was my favorite! Just by looking at him you would never know, when he opens his mouth, songs from heaven spill out. His voice is as calming as the sound of the ocean. Don't believe me, take a listen for yourself.

Releasing his first studio album, entitled David Archuleta, I must say this young man has made his mark in the industry. He was born to be a balladeer. With opening track Crush, a track very relative to all, sets the tone for the remainder of the album. He speaks of that special someone that captivates his entire mental cavity. We've all been there.

Despite his age, he sings as if he's experienced all that life has to offer. I've found myself listening to this album on repeat for the mere fact, I think I'm dreaming. Its an easy listen & it tells one story after another without the listener losing interest.

Without totally letting the cat out the bag, I highly recommend listening to this young man. I guarantee it wont be a disappointment. David, if you somehow catch wind of this, keep up the great work. Your fan here on Sound-Savvy is routing for ya!

Idol Chit Chat: Top 3 Rewind

MackN2U: Syesha's gone!!
Mello
: yea, she is… I was kinda heartbroken behind that
MackN2U
: my little Beyonce clone
Mello: but, it was rigged
MackN2U
: of course... they needed a man-to-man competition for the ratings...
Mello
: and they did her no justice on song preference
MackN2U
: yeah, her last song was the producers choice... how did she get stuck with something from HAPPY FEET? And David Cook gets the best Aerosmith song in the universe?!?!
Mello
: now, here is where me & u will battle it out… Viva La Archuleta!
MackN2U
: whateva… Cook is gonna rock it out!!
Mello
: I was kinda wishing for an upset last night tho
MackN2U
: me too... but it's better that she went home now... she wouldn't have won against either of them… not with as many times as she's been in the bottom
Mello
: yea, now she will be able to create an album with some freedom – without being under Clive Davis’ puppet strings
MackN2U
: yeah, I’ll be buying it, and the Sound-Savvy community will hear about it… and David Cook's album too
Mello
: definitely…call me a sap but when they each visited their hometown, tears filled my eyes
MackN2U
: uh... yeah… YOU A SAP!!
Mello
: it was almost as if I were in their shoes, living out my dream
MackN2U
: lol... but i know the feeling
Mello
: I'm a sap, I will admit it, but there's nothing like having that chance @ ur dream, and it actually comes true
MackN2U
: it seemed like Syesha didn't get much love... Archuleta had the mayor, David Cook was on Fox... Syesha was just in the limo, it's like she got played big time
Mello
: she's black... go figure, sad to say...
MackN2U
: we haven't had a black female finalist since... Fantasia?
Mello
: nope
MackN2U
: jeez... I tell ya. She's gonna be a star anyway... I can see her putting out an album and then getting a headlining show on Broadway and possibly a movie deal. She'll probably get the cheesy roles first like Beyonce did with Fighting Temptations and Carmen
Mello
: all you need is that ONE opportunity
MackN2U
: but then she'll get something that'll set her apart
Mello
: and more doors open for you
MackN2U
: right... like Danity Kane said "All I need is one shot!"
Mello
: let me get on TV
MackN2U
: shiiiid... let me get on MTV... its a done deal!!
Mello
: next thing you'll see us hosting our own show: "The Sound-Savvy Hour"
MackN2U
: That'll be hot!!!

Idol Chit-Chat: Top 4 Rewind

Mello: Top 3!
MackN2U: We picked 'em... and who said WE ain't sound savvy?
Mello: LOL, I know right? Cook, Archuleta & Syesha… just as we picked: survival of the fittest! It wouldn't surprise me if the voting is rigged this week so the competition is left with the Battle of the 2 Davids
MackN2U: well the last time there were 2 guys in the finale was when Clay and Ruben were in it. I definitely think the 3 left are the best in it... Syesha's gonna have to be very careful what she does next week, and turn it all the way up!!
Mello: she's already in the minority so song choice is KEY for her. If you win over Simon you're thru to the next round
MackN2U: and performance... she needs to do something that will make the world say "WOW"
Mello: yea, something as memorable as Whitney & the National Anthem
MackN2U: yeah but she better not do a Whitney song
Mello
: of course not
MackN2U: in all honesty, none of them are totally safe... I could see any one of them going home. David Cook, he needs to bring some more energy back to his performances. He seems like he's bored with the competition
Mello: Archuleta...flawless performance & his innocent face will win him over
MackN2U: with the teenyboppers
Mello: they're the ones who ACTUALLY vote
MackN2U: right... but more adults vote when it gets down to the bottom 3. I'd love to see David Cook win it, but I'd also like to win some money in this pool... so I need him to screw up next week and go home. He's gonna have recording contracts thrown at him if he loses anyway
Mello: if it comes down to Archuleta & Syesha.... I'm torn between the two
MackN2U: in fact, David Cook may have slacked off because he WANTS to lose
Mello: hell, anytime you're in top 5, recording contracts will be there
MackN2U: it would work out better for him if he did... that way he'd have his choice of which contract he wants and may get more artist control without being under Clive Davis
MackN2U: the winners of AI, their debut CD's are known to be full of pop garbage. It's usually not til their sophomore release that they get into their own artistry and develop more control. We've seen it with Kelly Clarkson, Ruben and Fantasia for example
Mello: yea, but Ruben has flopped
MackN2U: but Chris Daughtry, I'm sure he had way more creative control since he didn't win and probably chose to go with a label that gave him more freedom
Mello: honestly, if an african american wins idol, they have to almost market themselves
MackN2U: Ruben flopped in sales, but the Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear was a SOLID album talent-wise. It was great to listen to. Ruben flopped due to horrible marketing
Mello: exactly… you got to market yourself! My point exactly!
MackN2U: yeah, that's true
Mello: if you're Kelly Clarkson, or Carrie Underwood your marketing is pretty much done for you
MackN2U: well lets look at that... They market to demographics of people who actually BUY CDs. More money from sales, equals a bigger marketing budget. Fantasia and Ruben market to the urban demographics... people who DOWNLOAD
Mello: sad 2 say people don't buy anymore. The folks who do, such as, you & I, we’re the last of a dying breed
MackN2U: yes we are... I've got a whole wall of AUTHENTIC CD's
MackN2U: but then... Ruben didn't do much else anyway. He didn't tour a lot because of his health issues, so when it came to sales and marketing, he's partially to blame. If you're not selling you've gotta tour, so you can still make money. I don't think he can keep up with an aggressive touring schedule
Mello: he had some management issues as well
MackN2U: yeah... well at least he didn't get dropped like Taylor Hicks. Anyways, back to the topic... I wanna see David Cook go home next week... so I can buy a great David Cook CD in a few months
Mello: unless he gets up there and just sits idle, there’s no way he's goin home
MackN2U: i know... If not him, then I need Syesha to go so I can buy a great Syesha Mercado album…LOL
Mello: its gonna be tough; the right people are in it. I expect since they're the top 3, they each better bring near flawless performances. Let us think we have made the right decision on keeping those 3 in
MackN2U: right... and right now Syesha's the weakest of the 3 but she's got just as much potential as the guys
Mello
: yea. I'm with you.
MackN2U: I think she's gonna be a shocker next week and blow them away
Mello: I agree she's going 2 step it up because she's been in the bottom before
MackN2U: before??!??? She's been in that joint every week for the past like 6 weeks!! Last night she was probably thinkin "Seacrest, just cut the bullshit!"
MackN2U: I wonder what's gonna happen with Jason Castro... maybe he’ll get signed to a label that makes him cut his hair!

TIYMLI: American Idol Edition

TIYMLI (pronounced 'timely') - Vol. 2
Try It, You Might Like It

On this edition of TIYMLI, I decided to cover a few of the American Idols and some of their recent releases. Brooke's tearful exit last night prompted me to check in on some of the rest of them (don't get it twisted, I'm glad she's gone). Okay okay, so you might not like the show, but you do like good music, that's why you're here. Try something different, you might enjoy it. Happy listening....

Song: Sober
Idol: Kelly Clarkson
Album: My December
Video Link (Fan-made, not official)

Who else to start with but the original? Okay, I admit: I didn’t become an Idol fan until the 3rd season (Fantasia era), but I became a Kelly Clarkson fan during the finale for Season 1. Sober is a track from her 3rd album, My December. The instrumental is deep and haunting, the lyrics somber and emotional. Even now, Kelly could sing circles around most of the Idols that came after her and this track proves it.

Song: Celebrate Me Home
Idol: Ruben Studdard
Album: TBD
Video Link (Fan-made, not official)

Ruben, oh Ruben… wherefore art thou? If you don’t watch Idol, then you probably wouldn’t know that this is the song to boot this year – literally. This is the song that’s played when contestants get the boot just before their tearful farewell performance. Don’t get your hopes up though, this isn’t new material from Ruben, it’s a gospel-y cover of an old Kenny Loggins song. Still makes for a good listen though…

Song: One Word
Idol: Elliott Yamin
Album: Elliott Yamin
Video Link

He was a favorite during his season of Idol, and R&B crooner Elliott Yamin is making some great music these days. If you’re a true fan of R&B music, there’s no way you can pass up this guy’s music. If I had to choose one word to describe One Word, all I can say is amazing…

Song: What About Now?
Idol: Daughtry
Album: Daughtry
Video Link (Idol Gives Back performance)

What About Now is a charity single for Idol Gives Back, is a cut off the debut album, Daughtry, from the prominent Idol rocker Chris Daughtry. The video clip I’ve included is to the live performance from this season’s Idol Gives Back episode, and totally captures the sensitivity in the song. You can’t help but feel it. As for the album: I highly recommend it, probably the best debut of all the Idols in the history of the competition.

Song: Permanent Monday
Idol: Jordin Sparks
Album: Jordin Sparks
Video Link (Fan-made, not official)

The current American Idol, Jordin Sparks’ self titled-debut is already gold. Permanent Monday isn’t an official single, but it’s a cut off her CD that’s getting some airplay. There’s no official video for it. It’s a little bit country and a little bit of rock n’ roll…

Idol Chit Chat: Top 5 Rewind

MackN2U: so as far as my top choices... I think Syesha could move up and bump one of the Davids
Mello: it would have to be Archuleta because everyone is riding Cook right now
MackN2U: yeah... but Archuleta had a good night last night
Mello: he definitely did
MackN2U: For once he stepped away from the ballads and did something upbeat and it's about damn time... I was beginning to think he could only do one type of song
Mello: I was really rooting for my male version of Hannah Montana
MackN2U: lol… Jason Castro... can he go home PLEASE!!
Mello: he's definately in the bottom two. If I could reverse the hands of time, I'd bring horse girl back
MackN2U: and bite-your-bottom-lip-Brooke right along with him with that 'nightmare' performance. She always sounds like she's a cheap imitation. Syesha was at the top of her game last night... she always sounds great to me
Mello: she's showing improvement. Cook has phenominal performances every week… the top 3 will be interesting
MackN2U: very interesting... David Cook is already a superstar; his performances are so effortless
Mello: I think Brooke goes home tonite
MackN2U: Jason actually sounded alright last night, but not good enough to stay.
Mello: if she doesn't, I'm throwing my tv in the garbage!
MackN2U: If she doesn't I'm gonna get my hair cut like Ryan Seacrest
Mello: I don't think you'll have to worry about that because I truly believe she's going home
MackN2U: Syesha's probably been in the bottom three more than any contestant in the history of Idol
Mello: I agree… Tarantula Hair plays it too safe… he has yet to make me say ‘wow’… his performances are always dry
MackN2U: I can't stand to hear him start to sing. He should have been gone a long time ago... these damn teenyboppers keep voting
Mello: only thing that captures my attention are his pretty blue eyes, and his smile
MackN2U: I'd love to hear a David Cook album... that dude is by far the most talented on the show
Mello: some folks are naturals @ being a star especially in their element
MackN2U: and he's definitely a natural
Mello: I'm just anxious for the top 3
MackN2U: If there was an upset, who would you rather see in the top 3 - Jason or Brooke?
Mello: Jason… can't stand to see Brooke. her performances are over the top boring
MackN2U: lol... yeah I agree... at least he sounds better

Idol Chit Chat: Top 7 Rewind

MackN2U
: Last night, Mariah night... I must say a lot of them surprised me.
Mello: Yea, I agree… Mariah is known to hit a few high notes in some of her songs
MackN2U: exactly, and I didn't think the guys would be up for that particular challenge. She’s got a 5-octave range!
Mello: Last night...each performer showed tremendous growth
MackN2U: Brooke was the worst of the night though. It's her time... HOLLA BACK BROOKE!!!
Mello: Brooke is so last year
MackN2U: Whenever she plays the piano she always reminds me of a little schoolgirl at a piano recital…the way she looks down at the keys and concentrates so hard. She was nervous last night and it showed
Mello: yea, I'm bout tired of the piano gig. Her rendition of Hero was far left
MackN2U: it was sooo fast. Originally, Hero was a slow inspirational song, it's slow so you can feel the emotion. She wasn't feeling it at all; maybe that's why WE weren't feeling HER
MackN2U: and then that little cowardly lion face she put on after Simon's comments... sorry babe, no HERO to save you this week; Kristy Lee ain't too far behind.
Mello
: country chick?
MackN2U: right, horse girl
Mello: we already got Carrie Underwood…on to the next! LOL
MackN2U: she was aight last night...
Mello: in my best Randy voice, "yooo dawg, that was just aight for me”
MackN2U: Syesha, to me is always great…she just picks the wrong songs... last night though she was on
Mello: yea, Syesha did a remarkable job last night
MackN2U: but I agreed that it was good that she picked a lesser known song. Vanishing is beautiful and it helped the audience focus more on her and not her comparison to Mariah
Mello: yea, I had no choice but to pay attention to her voice, cuz I'd never heard that song before
MackN2U: How about Carly Smithson?
Mello: Carly, has a great voice, but for some reason she always gets mediocre reviews
MackN2U: I'm convinced the judges have their picks for the season, and Carly ain't one of them
Mello: some of her song was rather pitchy
MackN2U: are you channeling Randy? LOL I agree she was a little pitchy at first because I don't think she thought she could hit the high notes, but then she just kinda went "all or nothing" and it got good! Did u see Jason do “I Don’t Wanna Cry”?
Mello: I'm so sick of those tarantula arms that he calls hair
MackN2U: I hated his arrangement.... he changed the melody up on a classic
Mello: only thing going 4 him are his straight white teeth and those pretty blue eyes
MackN2U: and since neither of those can sing for him... i'm hoping he goes home soon. I'd pay to see him in the bottom three tonight
MackN2U: the biggest shocker for me though was David Cook. Always Be My Baby is so R&B/Pop... and he completely rocked it out!!!
Mello: yea, his arrangement was great
MackN2U: You got your David, and I got mine!!
Mello: I never imagined that song to be a slow tune
MackN2U: nor a rock tune
Mello: he made it his own
MackN2U: and did a damn good job!!
Mello: He killed it
MackN2U: that's my choice to win it!!
Mello: my top 3: Archuleta, Syesha & Cook
MackN2U: Those are my top 3 too, but I'm certain that my David is gonna beat your David… lol
MackN2U: To give you props though Archuleta actually did very well. That boy must have perfect pitch because he barely hits a bad note
Mello: I know! I had a talk with him just before he went out. I told him if he did a good job, I'd see to it that Hannah Montana would go on a date with him
MackN2U: HAH!! Did he start gasping for air?
Mello: guess now, I gotta get in contact with her people to set that up, huh?
MackN2U: He conquered a duo-diva song... Mariah AND Whitney? AND he went for the falsetto note… He gets props, brave little boy.
Mello: he's such a cutie-pie…and talented
MackN2U: if you're into that sorta thing
Mello: my pick for the bottom three: it'll be tarantula, fake Carrie, and hippy Brooke
MackN2U: nah, Jason’s got too many teenybopper fans to end up in the bottom 3… It'll be Kristy Lee, Brooke White, and either Carly or Syesha
Mello: yea, I was thinkin Carly since her performance was mediocre
MackN2U: she looked the best she's ever looked last night though
Mello: I think anytime she covers that tat on her arm, she looks good
MackN2U: its like a totally different person…she looked classy last night. Have you seen her husband in the crowd though? The guy with the tats on his face?
Mello: yea, a match made in ink heaven
MackN2U: lol... if they stop showing him, she might get more votes. Speakin of votes, did you see when Ryan tore down that sign that said "Simon for President"? CLASSIC!
Mello: lol yea
MackN2U: those two are in love
Mello: yea, they think they're so undercover, but not really...its actually pretty funny!

Idol Chit-chat: Top 8 Rewind

MackN2U: Randy was sooooooooo far left last night, what the hell was his problem?
Mello: he rides the wrong people’s nut sack, that dread-headed boy needs to get X’ed!
MackN2U: you know he screwed up the words on Somewhere Over The Rainbow!! I think im the only one that caught that. AND he looked like a pothead last night…
Mello: he's a mess. Ever since they voted my faves off, I have thrown in the towel on this season.
MackN2U: not me... not yet. As much as I wanna see dread-boy go home, his fanbase is too strong. Who were your faves?
Mello: I had two...A'siah Epperson & the gay guy, Danny, only because I enjoyed watching him perform. He was the only one who stood up to Simon. He was poised and very comfortable in his own skin
MackN2U: lol... I'm glad Mr. Purple highlights is gone... but I do think his 'sassiness' added flavor to this season. They should bring him back as a host... to replace Seacrest! Then maybe I'll enjoy that playful banter, right now it looks like flirting. A’siah, I liked her too, I wanted her to stay a while longer
Mello: Danny was funny. I'm glad they voted that rock star screaming chic off, Amanda, I think. She was a hot mess.
MackN2U: yeah, she sucked, her range was so limited... the fact that I didn't recognize half her songs made them all sound the same to me. I couldn't tell what was different from one week to the next!
Mello: she yelled every performance. This year, the pickins’ are slim man!
MackN2U: what do you think of the rocker guy David Cook? I think he could win it
Mello: He definitely has the image
MackN2U: and the sound... did you hear him do Lionel Richie's 'Hello'? And the version of Billie Jean he did... it wasn't original, but damn it was great!!
Mello: I'm biased...ever since they gave the noose to my faves... I haven't been much of a fan
MackN2U: Well we've got a cash pool at work... and right now, for me to stay in my slot I need Brooke to go home!! Bottom three tonight Brooke White, Carly Smithson, and unfortunately probably Syesha
MackN2U: i thought you were a faithful watcher...
Mello: I was…until they kicked my people off
MackN2U: oh... well let me fill u in: Kristy Lee a.k.a. the horse chic, is holdin on by a thin thread... I don't think she's as talented as she is pretty
MackN2U: Brooke White's got this 'good girl' thing goin on... But America has seen too many Monica Lewinsky's, and hell Frenchie Davis's to let her win. Her days are numbered... and her number's just about up... if I'm lucky in this pool she'll go home tonight
Mello: LOL
MackN2U: Syesha is gonna be forever plagued by bad song choices. Just because Idol gives you the platform to imitate your idols doesn't mean you always have to. As much as I hate to admit it, she DOES choose songs that are too big for her. I didn't think she sounded bad last night, but I do agree she shouldn't have done that song. I mean come on, that song defined Fantasia as the American Idol... if you can't outsing her, don't mess with it. Besides, she’s in my top three in the pool so she needs to stick around.
MackN2U: Michael Johns could probably get the vote for most likely to improve, but he already had a deal before the show so he's kinda got an unfair advantage. The leveling factor is that he's a mediocre performer against his competition this season. He'll make it a little further but he won't win
MackN2U: Carly Smithson: a clear case of 'image is everything'. Clearly, she's got the voice... hell she had a deal AND an album before the show... so why's she even on there? Ask the producers... her downfall is not her voice (though it was last night), it's wardrobe. Her clothes never compliment her body. One week they thought she was pregnant because of the 'smedium' dress she was wearing that overly accentuated her pudge.
MackN2U: The real competition rests on the shoulders of the 2 Davids: Archuleta and Cook.
Mello: in that case, I'm rooting for Archuleta, he's the youngest now in the entire competition.
MackN2U: Well you've got a good choice if u stick with Archuleta. The kids got a damn near flawless voice, he performs as if he's 27 instead of 17, and most weeks so far he's outperformed everyone else. His downfall can be his song choice… the problem is, he’s chosen songs no one’s ever heard of. If he doesn't win the title of American Idol, he'll win the award for biggest upset of Season 7… especially from all his teenybopper fans. Did u see that “Lick your lips” sign the girl was holding up for him last night? Where are the censors!!
MackN2U: David Cook, however, is a true competitor... he picks lesser known arrangements of some popular songs, so that silly people like me will think that they're his own arrangement, therefore giving him extra credit. Original or not, this dude's got some undeniable performance ability. But his downfall may be his own arrogance. Though I don't think he was as 'pompous' as the judges said last night, I have noticed his arrogance in previous weeks and if it's one thing America will do, its deflate an over-inflated ego.
Mello: spoken like a true critic, Mack
