Video: Keyshia Cole ft. Monica - Trust

I looooooooove this new sexier side of Keyshia Cole! She's a beautiful girl and this video really shows that side of her. In fact, both she and Monica look amazing in this clip. Trust is the latest single from Keyshia's A Different Me album, and I'm really glad it was chosen as a single. Their powerhouse voices blend really well together in this duet and Keyshia gets more vulnerable.

Video: Keyshia Cole - You Complete Me

The thing I like most about Keyshia Cole's A Different Me album is her transformation. She's really matured in her look, her sound and her content. You Complete Me is the second single from her latest project and it shows a happier Keyshia, with a focus on love and the joy love can bring. Initially, I wasn't feeling the song because vocally it does sound like a lot of her other work, but the lyrics come from a new space, a more personal space. I really hope Keyshia's fans stick through this transition and stay by her side; it's refreshing to see that she's not dwelling on the pain anymore and the whole album really projects a happier woman. I've got a feeling we still haven't seen the best of Keyshia Cole yet.

Album Review: Keyshia Cole - A Different Me

"I would like to introduce a different me..."

Artist: Keyshia Cole
Album: A Different Me
Release Date: 12.16.08

Suffice it to say, Keyshia Cole has delivered another reason to fall in love with her, despite speculations that this new album would continue down lovesick lane with it's predecessors. Accompanying the new look that graces the cover of her latest release, Keyshia re-emerges with a fresh sound and newer content for her third album, appropriately titled A Different Me. With guest appearances from hip-hop legends Nas and 2-Pac, and a stunning duet with R&B superstar Monica, this album packages her soul, her versatility, and her maturity.

Embrace the newness with the album’s opener, Make Me Over, a big-band composition over a soul-clap beat. It’s a welcomed departure from some of her more overproduced slow jams of late. In contrast, the shining points of this album come within the slower numbers like the sensual Brand New, the sexy anthem Erotic, and the album’s second single, You Complete Me (yes, it grew on me!). Brand New is an invitation to intimacy and a noteworthy choice, very soft and soulful with Keyshia taking care not to over sing, but blending rather well with the melody. If you were like me and fell in love with Heaven Sent the first time you heard it then This Is Us will easily become one of your favorites; from the short guitar strums on the intro to the depth of the lyrics, it’s just a beautiful song: I don’t need to find a million reasons why, this is us, this is us, and this is how we love…”. Monica’s contribution comes in the form of Trust, a power ballad that joins the two vocalists on a journey to gain the faith of their respective endearing lovers.

A lot of her regular listeners can relate to the pain and heartache in her previous releases, but it’s important to respect the change in seasons for Keyshia Cole with this new album. I’m glad to see, hear and feel the growth in her as an artist with this project – from the image on the album cover all the way through to the final song. Start to finish, A Different Me is an album that fans can appreciate and enjoy for its freshness and its impeccable display of Keyshia, in a different light…

Keyshia Cole... Once Again... Sit Down...

It's a shame that I can't even count on two hands how many notes she totally missed. Why is she even being selected to sing live at events like this? Two words babygirl: VOCAL COACH! I hear Ankh-Ra might be available since Makin' The Band is in down time and Day 26 has been put on a shelf. Keyshia please, I couldn't care less about your reality show, your MUSIC game is falling off quick... step it up please...

YAWN... New Keyshia Cole... I guess...

Dear Keyshia,
If this is the stuff that fills your next album, I will not be buying it. Everything you do these days sounds the same and it got old with the last album. Call me when your sound matures... I'm tired of the raspy reaches for notes that sound halfway soulful and halfway hellish. I'm really not saying this to bash you, I think you have great potential, but I'm not seeing it. Upgrade your game please... NOW....

To anyone that's interested, this song is a confirmed track on her upcoming album A Different Me hitting stores on December 16.

Keyshia Cole and 2Pac - Playa Cardz Right

I almost forgot Keyshia Cole is comin back with her third album in December. Here's the first single, Playa Cardz Right, and it features the rapper that no one seems to let go of, 2Pac. The song is decent, this album is said to be more introspective. I certainly hope so, Keyshia's stuff is all starting to sound the same, and it's getting kinda boring. Look for her new album, A Different Me set to drop December 16.

The Stars Stand Up

Babyface and L.A. Reid have reunited once again to produce this inspirational single with an all-star all-female lineup. Just Stand Up is the new charitable single in support of the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) initiative, an organization dedicated to raising funds for the advancement of cancer research. Lyrically, it's a very uplifting, and inspirational song, and there are some tremendous star power vocals here. Some of the biggest female stars in today's music have lent their talents to ensure the success of this single, leaving behind restrictions of age and genre to support a cause greater than them all. Check this out, and if you're a cancer survivor or know someone battling it, this song's for you.

Mr. Director... I mean really....??

I’m probably gonna get blasted for this, but I don’t care…

What the hell was the director thinking when he shot this video?? Forgive me for being the cynic when it comes to Benny Boom’s director skills but did he even listen to the lyrics before shooting this video? Don’t get me wrong, Keyshia’s an attractive girl, despite the monstrosity of a tattoo plastered on her right arm… but to waste such a great song on a crappy video is beyond me. Heaven Sent just happens to be one of the best songs she has ever made – from the strumming guitar intro to the fadeout at the end - the song itself could have been sent from heaven!! When I first heard the song, I fell in love with the lyrics, very emotional and deeply relatable. So I expected to see an interpretive video or at least something with some depth. All we got is….HER!! 3 minutes and 57 seconds of Keyshia and the gap (is that considered depth?). Some think she was trying to channel Mary (a la ‘You Are Everything’) but that video was 10 times more graceful. Maybe she wanted to use this video to showcase her new hairstyle… note to Ms. Cole: GET AN ENDORSEMENT (anyone else tired of seeing Kelly Rowland for Dark N’ Lovely in EVERY Vibe mag?).

And maybe I swallowed the dumb pill before I watched this, because really – how many of her other videos correspond with the song? As a fan of both Keyshia Cole and the song, I demand a re-shoot. I can write the treatment. Hell, a fifth grader could write a better treatment. If she wanted a “look-at-me-I’m-so-pretty” video, she should have released the song Just Like You. Am I the only one that feels this way? Ya'll let me know...
