New Music: Rick Ross feat. Nas - The Usual Suspects

Wow!! The biggest boss Officer Ricky Ross is setting up for what sounds like his best album yet with this latest track featuring Nas. The Usual Suspects is one of those real smooth cuts that makes you wanna lean back, light a cigar, and toast to the good life. Sure 50 Cent may be killing Ross in this over-hyped beef, but Ross' lyric game knocks 50 Cent out of the ballpark with ease. Check out the latest cut from the album Deeper Than Rap, slated for an April 21st release date.

Nas feat. Marsha Ambrosius - If I Ruled The World '09

So Nas has revisited his '96 hit If I Ruled The World, first made popular with Lauryn Hill on the hook. This version is more updated, with dreams now realized due to recent achievements (i.e. Obama's win, etc.) However, I don't think this one can touch the original. If he wanted to update the song, he shouldn't have changed so much - Lauryn Hill should have remained on the hook (which would have been a great comeback opportunity for her), the beat should have been more similar to the original, and I really feel like he covered so much more content in his original version and this one is rather limited. Sorry Nas, I'm not feelin this update...

Dr. Dre feat T.I. and Nas - Topless

One of these days, Dr. Dre is gonna actually release Detox and satisfy all the fans that have been longing for this release for the past few years that he's been working on it. With so much work put in, it had better be a monumental hip-hop release. Until then, however, sate your palate with Topless (trust me, it ain't what you think!), the latest track from (presumably) the Detox album. Looks like Dre, Em and 50 are all planning to reclaim the charts this year. Most anticipated of the three? Let's just say, he can still "keep their heads ringin..."

New Ludacris with Nas AND Jay-Z: I Do It For Hip-Hop

Is there really a better reason to do it? 3 of the hottest rappers on one blazing track... I Do It For Hip Hop is the latest from Luda's forthcoming album Theater of the Mind, due out on November 25. I've always respected Luda as a lyricist and a rapper and this track is just one of the reasons why. A lot of these new rappers need to hear this and really consider the reason they're doing music -- better yet, everyone should listen to this, no matter what you do. If you're doing anything for the money, or the fame or the superficial reasons, then your foundation isn't solid and it's sure to fall through eventually. But when you fully commit yourself to an art, if you do it for the love of the craft then success is both inevitable and immeasurable... chew on that.

In God's Son We Trust

The people need someone to believe in, so in God's Son we trust
'Cause they know I'mma give 'em what they want – taken from Hero

Artist: Nas
Album: Untitled
Release Date: 7.15.08

It's about time... It's about time someone stopped makin it rain. It's about time someone stopped trying to "Supaman dat hoe" and said something worthy of a real hero. Nine albums deep in the game, and Nasty Nas is still pickin your brain and provoking thoughts. Nothin' against Weezy and Soulja Boy, but there comes a time when you've gotta use the power of the voice you have to speak for those who don't have one. Check below to read the official Sound-Savvy review of Nas'
Untitled...

Mack: People will have a hard time admitting it but Nas is the best active rapper in the game right now
Mello: oh yea
Mack: and people won't like some of his music because it's the truth...
Mello: I saw the comment that someone left and I agree
Mack: yeah, Sane
Mello: he's the only one that aint out here wanting to make it rain
Mack: he's better than Weezy, and he's always been 10 levels above 50 cent
Mello: he's a real lyricist and I love this album
Mack: and he has something to say... this whole album is a history lesson and a wake up call all rolled into one. Hero was the perfect lead single; lyrically it just gives way to everything else on the album... it's a story of his own rise and maturity. He put in a nice catchy hook to grab the attentions of the masses and say "Hey look over here!" then when you get the album, he inundates you with the truth
Mello: exactly
Mack: Sly Fox is definitely gonna turn some heads... he's takin on the major media outlets
Mello: which is why I love it
Mack: and Fried Chicken is some real talk!! Busta’s like "I'mma eat some shit until what I’m eatin kills me. And I choose to do that. Why? Because that's just what niggas do..."
Mello: exactly... I love it!
Mack: I'm pretty sure he won't do as well as Weezy in sales, but as far as the quality of music, Nas has got it by a long shot. So let Weezy have the Billboard awards... Nas deserves the Grammy!
Mello: yea, wit this album, its a public service announcement: “Niggas exist in all nationalities!” That's a classic line. We Make the World Go Round wit Chris Brown is a nice piece
Mack: yeah, another lil somethin to attract the younger listeners... make them sit down and listen
Mello: "in america you'll never be free, middle fingers up, fuck the police"
Mack: I really believe this dude is hip hop's hero… he's a teacher… and hip-hop is his classroom
Mello:the fundamentals of hip-hop have been resurrected with this album. As I stated in my is hip hop dead post it didn't die, its been put in a time capsule 2 be resurrected
Mack: and the good thing is, it speaks to EVERYONE... a lot of people would listen on the surface and think he's pro-black but he's pro-American, pro-earth, pro-Obama, pro-equality.
Mello: “Wake up America...its not what you think it is”
Mack: He uses his music wisely too. There's a lot of emotion in some of the tracks that Nas can't convey in his voice so he lets the music do it for him. Like the anger you can tell he feels in Sly Fox… the guitar on the track does justice to convey how he feels
Mack: or the sadness he feels for the ignorance of our whole country on America; the strings, the background singer... everything around him conveys his emotion while he delivers the message
Mello: we welcome the rebirth of hip-hop
Mack: it's a REAL album... Nas has a lot to say
Mello: and sad 2 say..becuz of folks' ignorance they won't listen. He will capture @ least ONE persons attention… he definately caught mine
Mack: "No matter what the CD called I'm unbeatable y'all" Let’s GO ESCO!!!

New Nas' Video for 'Nigger'

Song: Be A Nigger Too
Album: Untitled
Check out the new video for Nas' controversial new single Be A Nigger Too. Powerful clip, I'm interested to know what you think, so definitely post comments... And yes, that's the album cover up there...

SoundSavvy Soundbyte: 'Be A Nigger Too'

MackN2U
: I like Nas' new song, ‘Be A Nigger Too’; It's different... he presents a different perspective of a controversial term
Mello
: yea that's why Nas is a great rapper - he gets very deep. But when he thinks outside the box and goes way extreme it hurts him
MackN2U: yeah but only because people don't pay attention...
Mello
: yea, which is sad… I'd support his ‘Nigger’ album 300% because based on the title of the album I’m intrigued to wanna know more
MackN2U: Nigger is used as a term to describe blacks, but whichever way you flip it, SOMEBODY feels it's cool to be a "nigger" - thats what the song is sayin... so it's like why even fight over the word?
Mello: every ethnic group has pretty much adopted the word
MackN2U: exactly... that’s because there are “niggers” in every race. And regardless of what connotation you give it, people will still use it
Mello: pretty much, and blacks take offense to it but he’s sayin, “what's the difference between us calling folks spics, kikes and crackers?”
MackN2U: but beyond that, he's also sayin that a simple word like nigger cannot dictate the actions of a group of people
Mello: UNLESS of course you give just cause and display those type of actions
MackN2U: And I applaud Nas, for opposing the majority. He's gotten to a point in his career where people's opinions won't make or break him... he's already a made man
Mello: yea, ur right. Honestly...I believe any artist...who thinks outside the box, and goes way left field with their content, people shun. We live in a shitty society where people are afraid to truly express themselves, and so they conform to what everyone else is doing
MackN2U: and musicians feel they HAVE to do that, to develop a following first... even Nas did it. That ‘Nastradamus’ album was total conformity... but now that he's built a platform he can say what he wants
Mello: yea. Like some people still don't like the Erykah Badu album, but...you gotta appreciate what these artists do
MackN2U: right... cause even if the mainstream doesn't appreciate it, it's ART so there's someone who does. That's what separates true artists from everyone else. A true artist doesn't care about appealing to the mainstream as long as they appeal to someone.
