Raheem Devaughn - Lyin' To Myself

Raheem Devaughn is officially one of the most underrated artists in R&B and this smooth joint adds another reason to support that claim. True talent is hard to find, but the DMV homie is doin some great things. His new album The Love and War Masterpeace is on the horizon, and its shaping up to be his best effort yet from what we've been hearing. I'd love to hear him on a track with some other R&B heavyweights like Tyrese, Robin Thicke, maybe even Trey Songz...

Audio: Raheem Devaughn - Lyin to Myself

Video: Raheem Devaughn ft. Ludacris - Bulletproof

This is one of Raheem's best videos, definitely one of the best and most creative out right now by far. The masses may not pick up on this because of the message it bears, still it's an important one. This joint also gives yet another reason why I'm forever a Ludacris fan - HOT VERSE! Bulletproof is the first single from Raheem's forthcoming 3rd album The Love and War Masterpeace, which is slated for release next month, but with pushbacks these days, it appears that no release date is bulletproof...

Video: Ghostface Killah feat. Raheem Devaughn - Baby

Finally some love to the fellas who wanna handle responsibility and do right by the women bearing their children. Baby caught my ear on the radio about a week ago, chill head-nod type beat and Raheem's mellow soul on the hook. This is the first single from Ghosforthcoming tface Killah's 8th album, The Wizard of Poetry, to be released later this year. After all these years, Ghostface has still got it on the lyric tip...

Raheem Devaughn - Wing And A Prayer

In this open letter to God, Raheem pours his heart out, and lays his soul out in the music. The honesty and emotion on this record is classic Raheem style. Bun B steps into the mix on this one to up the swag on this already hot track. This track is presumably on Devaughn's upcoming mixtape, to hit streets in June. Stay tuned!

MINDSTREAM TOPIC: Digital Love

Tonight on Mindstream, we discussed the topic of technology and relationships. Is technology affecting our intimate relationships? From a music standpoint, technology has been the driving force behind some of the hottest and most popular songs. So Sound-Savvy gives you it's countdown of the top 5 "Digital Love" songs.

Artist: Zapp and Roger
Song: Computer Love

This is the song that probably started the whole trend between technology and relationships. It’s definitely one of the most sampled songs in R&B music and became infamous for it’s use of the talk box and voice augmentation similar to the vocoder.

Artist: Soulja Boy feat. Sammie
Song: Kiss Me Thru The Phone

It’s a lil childish, and while I’m not a huge fan of Soulja Boy, I respect how he’s always so catchy. This song is about using technology when you can’t be with the one you love to send something as small as a kiss.

Artist: 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake
Song: Ayo Technology

This next joint keeps it real. Sometimes technology is good and serves its purpose when distance is the issue, but sometimes you get tired of it and need some one-to-one contact. 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake came together over a crazy Timbaland beat to deliver this joint.

Artist: Usher
Song: Dot Com (previously unreleased)

This is an unreleased track from this Usher's 8701 album and it’s very metaphoric. It discusses the trend of cyber sex and how it can be an intimate turn-on. CyberSex is taboo to a lot of people, but Usher doesn’t hold back with his desires, and let it be known, this isn’t the only song he’s made about cyber sex.

Artist: Raheem Devaughn
Song: Text Messages

I particularly like this song because everyone who has a cell phone today can relate to this joint. Raheem Devaughn explores the new trend of “sexting” which is sending sexy messages through SMS or texting. He even gives you some ideas on what to say. Reppin the DMV, the neo-soul hippie rockstar did his thing with this joint!.

Video Clip: Raheem Devaughn - 4-Letter Word

I'm diggin' this raw, yet creative clip put together by Raheem Devaughn for Four-Letter Word, a track off his sophomore album, Love Behind The Melody. This doesn't look like an official video, but Raheem is the kind of artist that's in touch with his fans enough to do something special like this, and we appreciate him for it. Fellas, this might be that joint to secure your spot for Valentine's Day. If Cupid usually brings you a cold front, take your pick from Raheem's variety of four-letter words featured in this clip. It might help you cuddle up with something warm this year... Pay special attention to the very end, and listen to the purity of Raheem's voice sans the music. Now THAT'S what I call talent!!

Sex Messages on Overload...2forthepriceof1

What do you get when you add two of the hottest artists from the DMV on one track? Eargasmic music! Raheem teamed up with Studio 43 owns Marky to create a mix aimed to hit THAT spot, of course for the ladies. Mellomusic is officially giving this her stamp of approval. Raheem definately aims to please on this track, as previously noted in my "Sex Messages" post. And ladies, there's definately more to Marky than meets the eye. He has an intoxicating spirit & is very personable. Keep your ears & eyes open for whats to come next in the world of Markyland. Of course Sound-Savvy will keep you posted. Artist: Raheem Devaughn
Song: Text Messages
Album: Love Behind The Melody (Deluxe Edition)

First he came hard with Customer, now he's serving us up with some Sex Messages. God Bless Raheem. Raheem, if you're reading this, Mellomusic is letting you know, YOU CAN SEND ME SOME TEXT MESSAGES, LOL! This post is strictly for my ladies. No offense fellas. We're in an era, where text messages rule the world. There's nothing like receiving a little naughty text from your special someone, am I right or wrong, ladies? The fact that you can't reach him right then & there, makes you want him even more. Raheem knows what he's doing. Loved the video, even more, I love the lyrics. Radio Raheem keep em comin!

You Can Have Me Supersized...Remixed!!

Raheem has powered up with newly signed Geffen artist Robyn Janelle on the official Customer remix. Its always good to hear something outside of that good good lemonade. What in the hell was Kelz thinking? Anyways, Robyn Janelle is another product of the DMV. Proving that our area has plenty of talent, and its good to know she's making national headlines. Take a listen.. Sound-Savvy has it first! We're feeling it, let us know what you think.

If any members of either Robyn Janelle's camp or Raheem's is reading. Sound-Savvy would love to get a one on one with you!

Top 10 Countdown: Hip Hop and R&B Dedications To Moms

Mother's Day is coming up: Sunday May 11, and Sound-Savvy would like to take the time to shout out those special women who have done so much in our lives. Being a mother is about more than just pushing out a kid; we recognize the struggles, and appreciate the sacrifices. Fortunately, so do many music artists, so we dedicate this countdown to all the mothers, especially those moms rockin with Sound-Savvy!

Artist: Jay-Z
Song: December 4th
What better way to honor your mom than to put her on a track? Jay and Mama Carter take a trip down memory lane on this opening track to the Black Album, Jay’s first exit to retirement. With mom narrating and Jay spittin’ the flow, could there be a better mother and son collaboration?

Artist: Jamie Foxx
Song: I Wish You Were Here
This song was written for the woman who raised Foxx, his grandmother. For many, grandmothers were mothers, and Jamie does a masterful job of paying homage to the special woman who raised and molded him. Grandmothers all over the world, we love ya’ll just as much.

Artist: Talib Kweli
Song: Momma Can You Hear Me
If you’ve never heard this, don’t fret – it’s unreleased. This joint was recorded during the Eardrum sessions but is set to be released on the forthcoming Prisoner of Conscious and was produced by Kanye West. Everybody knows how Kweli flows, just imagine him spittin a whole song to his mom. Very deep listening.

Artist: Raheem Devaughn
Song: Woman
Once again reppin the DMV, Raheem celebrates the beauty of women as a whole, from the things we love, to the things that drive us crazy – and yes, even the little things. Woman is featured on Raheem Devaughn’s sophomore studio release Love Behind The Melody.

Artist: GhostFace and Mary J. Blige
Song: All That I Got Is You
A heart wrenching shout to moms and grandmothers accompanied by a tear jerking video clip. From overcrowded living spaces, to borrowing food from your neighbors just to make it, this song delves into the struggles a mother will endure for her children.

Artist: Anthony Hamilton
Song: Mama Knew Love
This is the opening cut from his debut Comin From Where I’m From. This is a reminiscent cut with a simple message – no matter how hard life got, Mama always knew love for her children.

Artist: 2Pac
Song: Dear Mama
Without question, Tupac was a lyricist beyond his years and his peers in the rap game. ‘Pac wrote this song to symbolize his appreciation for the one woman who would always understand him -- in life and beyond the grave.

Artist: Mario
Song: Do Right
In 2007, Mario filmed a documentary, I Love You, But I won’t Love You to Death, which chronicled his struggles with his mother’s addiction to heroin. This song is featured on his latest project Go (2007) and explains his love for her in spite of her addiction and his admiration for her as she overcame it.

Artist: Kanye West
Song: Hey Mama
This cut is from The Louis Vuitton Don himself and it was a shout to the woman who single-handedly helped him reach his dreams. With the passing of his mother last year, one thing this joint teaches, is to honor your mother while she’s still here. Rest in Peace Dr. West.

Artist: Boyz II Men
Song: A Song For Mama
Timeless is this cut from those 4 Philly boys. This track was featured on their Evolution CD and the Soul Food soundtrack. Not since this classic was released has there been a better R&B dedication to mothers all over the world that simply says I love you.
